Canon PIXMA TS3722 will not connect to Wi-Fi or print: how to fix it

The Canon PIXMA TS3722 is a popular home printer, and the most common trouble is the first setup: it will not find the Wi-Fi, the computer cannot see it, or the computer only shows it as a scanner. The printer itself is almost always fine. Work through these steps in order and try a print after each one.

Steps

  1. Check the basics on the printer. Make sure paper is loaded, both ink cartridges are seated with the orange tape removed, and no light is flashing orange for an error. Clear any of those first.
  2. Restart everything. Turn the printer off, unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds, then plug it into a wall outlet, not a power strip, and turn it on. Restart your Wi-Fi router and your computer too.
  3. Put the printer near the router for setup. A first Wi-Fi setup often fails because the signal is weak. Move it to the same room as the router until it is connected.
  4. Connect it with the router button if your router has WPS. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until the Wi-Fi lamp flashes, then within two minutes press the WPS button on your router. When the Wi-Fi lamp stays lit, the printer is on your network.
  5. If your router has no WPS button, use Canon setup instead. On your computer, go to canon.com/ijsetup, choose your model, and download the setup software. It walks you through joining the printer to your Wi-Fi.
  6. Make sure the computer is on the same Wi-Fi. A computer on a guest network, a phone hotspot, or a different router cannot see the printer even when both say connected.
  7. Fix the scanner only problem on Windows. If Windows lists the TS3722 only as a scanner, it is missing the full driver. Download the full MP Drivers package for your version of Windows from canon.com/ijsetup or the Canon USA support site, install it, and restart.
  8. Add the printer again. On Windows open Settings, then Bluetooth and devices, then Printers and scanners, remove the TS3722, restart, and choose Add device. On a Mac open System Settings, then Printers and Scanners, remove it, and click Add Printer.
  9. Clear stuck jobs and offline mode on Windows. Click the TS3722 in Printers and scanners, choose Open print queue, cancel all documents, and in the Printer menu make sure Use Printer Offline is not checked.
  10. Make a copy to prove the printer works. Put a page face down on the scanner glass, close the lid, and press the Black or Color start button. If that prints, the printer is healthy and the fix is on the computer side.
  11. Never call a printer support number from a popup, an ad, or a setup page that is not canon.com. Canon setup software is free, and fake support lines often ask for remote access or payment.

Common questions

Why does my computer see the TS3722 as a scanner but not a printer?

The basic driver Windows installs on its own can be incomplete. Installing the full Canon driver from canon.com/ijsetup and restarting usually adds the printer.

Can I set up the TS3722 without the Canon app?

Yes. If your router has a WPS button, the printer can join Wi-Fi with the button method, and then Windows or a Mac can add it from the regular printer settings.

Can I connect it with a USB cable instead?

Yes. A USB printer cable connects it directly to a computer, which skips Wi-Fi problems entirely. You still need the Canon driver for full printing.

Do I need a new printer?

Almost never. If it copies a page by itself, the printer works and the problem is the connection or the driver.

Can Ellis help me with this?
