Setting up a new Epson EcoTank or WorkForce supertank printer (like the ST-C4100)

Most setup trouble on these printers comes from skipping the initial ink charge, joining the wrong Wi-Fi band, or adding the printer on the computer before it is on the network.

Steps

  1. Remove all the tape and packing material, including any inside the lid and around the print head. Leftover tape causes paper jams and error lights.
  2. Fill each ink tank with the matching color bottle. The bottles are keyed so each one only fits its own tank. Close every tank cap firmly.
  3. Turn the printer on and let it run the initial ink charge. This can take 10 to 20 minutes and the printer will sound busy. Do not turn it off or open it while it runs.
  4. Load plain paper, then on the printer screen open Settings, then Wi-Fi Setup or Network Settings, pick your Wi-Fi name and type the password. Most of these printers only join the 2.4 GHz band, so pick that network if your router shows two.
  5. Print a network status sheet from the printer menu to confirm it is connected.
  6. On your computer, go to epson.com/support, search your exact model (for example ST-C4100), and install the driver package, or use the Epson Smart Panel app on a phone. Let it find the printer on the network.
  7. Print a test page. If colors look faint or streaky on the first prints, run a nozzle check from the printer maintenance menu and one head cleaning, then try again.

Common questions

How long does the first ink charge take?

Usually 10 to 20 minutes on a new supertank printer. It uses some of the first bottles to fill the lines, which is normal.

My computer cannot find the printer. What now?

Make sure the computer and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network, restart the printer, then add it again from the Epson installer. If it still does not show, a USB cable works as a backup while you sort out the network.

Do I need an Epson account?

No. You can print without one. The Epson apps may ask you to sign up, but you can skip that step.
