Steps

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi and run Windows Update until it says you are up to date. Restart when asked.
  2. Sign in with your Microsoft account so your settings and files can follow you to future computers.
  3. Turn on Windows Security and leave it on. You rarely need a second antivirus program.
  4. Install your browser, your email app and any program you need, from the maker website.
  5. Set up your printer from Settings, Printers & scanners.
  6. Turn on backup. OneDrive folder backup is built in and gives you a copy of Desktop, Documents and Pictures.
  7. Move files from the old computer with a USB drive, or sign in to OneDrive on both.
