Protecting senior living residents from scams

Scams aimed at older adults rarely start with a stranger at the door anymore. They start with a popup that says the computer is infected, a text about a package, or a call from someone claiming to be the bank or a grandchild. Residents in your community get these every week, and families worry about it on every tour.

You cannot stop the scam calls from arriving. What you can do is give residents a habit: before you call any number, pay anyone or let anyone onto your computer, check first.

Give residents one patient number to call and check before they call back, pay or click. Ellis is $499 a month per community, with a 30 day pilot and month to month after that.

Ellis is an AI assistant, not a person, and says so at the start of every call. Calling the number from any phone gets the first 5 minutes free, so you can test it with a real device problem before you decide.

The scams residents see most

Simple rules to teach residents

  1. Real companies never ask you to call a number from a popup. Close the browser instead.
  2. Never let someone you did not call onto your computer, and never install an app because a caller asked.
  3. Nobody legitimate asks for payment in gift cards.
  4. If a family member calls asking for money, hang up and call them back on the number you already have.
  5. When in doubt, check with someone you trust before you do anything.

What operators can do

Where Ellis fits

Ellis is a patient AI phone helper. A resident calls (928) 272-0355, describes the popup, text or call, and Ellis helps them work out whether it looks like a scam and what to do next, such as closing the browser, removing a remote access app, or calling their bank on the number printed on their card. It never asks for passwords, card numbers or Social Security numbers.

If money has already moved or a card number was shared, Ellis tells the resident to call their bank right away and to let your staff and their family know. Your human team stays the escalation point.

For tours, it gives your sales team something concrete to say when an adult child asks about scams: residents have a number to call and check, any time.

Questions operators ask

Can Ellis block scam calls?

No. Ellis does not filter calls or texts. It helps residents recognize a scam when one arrives and walks them through what to do next.

What if a resident already let a scammer onto their computer?

Ellis can walk them through disconnecting from the internet, removing the remote access app and changing key passwords on the official sites, and it tells them to call their bank. If the device needs hands on cleanup, staff or a local technician should handle it.

Is this a replacement for staff training?

No. It works alongside your scam awareness sessions, so residents have someone to ask between classes and after hours.
