Technology classes for seniors in assisted living

Activities directors run iPad clubs, smartphone basics and video calling classes because residents ask for them. The class goes well, and then a week later the resident cannot remember which button opened the photos, or a new update changed the screen.

The lesson does not fail in the room. It fails on a Tuesday night when the resident is alone with the device and nobody is there to ask.

Give residents a patient helper to call after technology class, so new skills stick. Ellis is $499 a month per community, with a 30 day pilot and month to month after that.

Ellis is an AI assistant, not a person, and says so at the start of every call. Calling the number from any phone gets the first 5 minutes free, so you can test it with a real device problem before you decide.

Class topics residents ask for most

Making a technology class stick

  1. Keep each session to one skill, and send residents home with a large print card for that one skill.
  2. Practice on each resident's own device, not a demo tablet.
  3. Repeat the same skill for two or three weeks before moving on.
  4. Give residents a place to ask follow up questions between classes so they do not give up.
  5. Invite family to one session so they know what their parent learned.

Where Ellis fits

Ellis is a patient AI phone helper residents can call at (928) 272-0355 any time, including right after class to practice or days later when they forget a step. It says up front that it is an AI, goes one step at a time, repeats as often as needed, and never asks for passwords or card numbers.

Activities directors can put the number on the class handout, so the class keeps working after everyone goes home.
